1. Inspect the Hardware
Take a good long look at your door’s hardware for any wear and tear that may have taken place over the winter and spring. Check out all the visible parts and look to see if any hinges came loose, if the track is misaligned and if bolts are missing. Some tasks you can handle on your own with the proper tools, such as tightening all visible bolts. However, you should always have a professional take care of any replacements or repair work.
2. Lubricate the Hardware
You need to make sure your garage door runs smoothly throughout the summer, and that means lubricating all of the hardware. This will prevent loud noises and screeches during opening and closing. Use a three-in-one oil type, not grease.
3. Wash the Door
Give the doors a good soak and wash when the weather is nice to remove dirt, grease and grime. You just need a simple mixture of water and a mild household detergent, as well as a wash cloth or sponge. Rinse thoroughly.
4. Apply New Paint

5. Add Insulation
Garage door insulation helps during the winter months, to be sure, but it can also prove beneficial in summer. By ensuring you have adequate insulation, you can do your part to keep out the heat and keep in the air conditioning.
6. Reinforce Your Garage Door
During summer storm and hurricane season, it’s especially important to fortify your garage door from extreme weather conditions. Check to ensure there are no holes or openings within your garage door. Add proper reinforcements to keep your home and family safe during storms.
7. Test Your Garage Door
Open and close the door to check for proper operation. Be on the lookout for strange noises or a door that closes halfway down. This is a serious safety issue that should be addressed right away.
